Join Us
Westminster welcomes all people to participate in our worship of God, join our program life, support our mission and call upon our pastoral services. A More Light church, Westminster is open and voluntary. It includes people of all ages and backgrounds, making us a truly diverse and interesting family.
Join us for worship, for a Habitat Work Day, for an education program, or a “Westminster Presents” concert. Journey with us, and we think you may decide to join our church community.
We offer membership orientations three times each year to introduce newcomers to our life and mission as a church. These opportunities include:
Dinner with the Pastor
This is an opportunity for dinner and fellowship with our senior pastor, the Reverend Thomas H. Yorty and others like yourself who are considering membership at Westminster. You will become acquainted with the rich history of Westminster and share your own hopes and expectations in finding a church family that is just right for you.
Inquirer Class
As a participant in the Inquirer Class you will be introduced to the opportunities for worship, service and education at Westminster. You will meet the church program staff members and tour our church and the Westminster Early Childhood Programs school. Presbyterian history and theology will be explored as you consider your own journey of faith – past, present and future.
New Member Sunday
Should you decide to become a part of the Westminster family, you will be welcomed into our membership during our Sunday morning service. On this day, you will meet with the Westminster Elders who will receive you into membership by reaffirmation of faith, affirmation of faith or letter of transfer. Following the service, you will be greeted by the congregation at a reception in your honor.
Individuals may become official members of our church family in any one of three ways:
Letter of Transfer - for persons who were members of another church and wish to unite with Westminster Presbyterian.
Reaffirmation of Faith - for persons who have been away from the church and would like to reaffirm their faith and love for Jesus Christ.
Profession of Faith - for persons who have come to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and who have not previously belonged to a Christian church.
If you are considering membership at Westminster, it is recommended that you attend Dinner with the Pastor. To be received into membership, it is necessary to attend an Inquirer Class followed by a meeting with the Westminster session.
